Grammar
Whinfield Primary School has developed a curriculum which is ambitious and designed to give all pupils the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.
In Grammar, the whole school curriculum has been designed very carefully in conjunction with all staff to ensure that the knowledge and skills are taught in a sequential order which will ensure pupils know more and remember more.
Grammar is embedded throughout the English curriculum with pupils being taught a weekly discreet lesson to focus on specific elements of grammar. These separate lessons focused on grammar objectives allow teachers to cover the finer points of the English curriculum so that children can then apply these skills in their writing. Staff draw on a number of resources to adapt and tailor to the needs of each class, such as the ‘No Nonsense Grammar’ resource and accompanying sentence toolkit where appropriate. This bespoke approach enables staff to focus on the needs of the pupils as well as ensuring pupils have the skills required to be successful in their knowledge of grammar and in turn successful in their writing.
